SUPERINTENDENT NOTE: This week is so important as it is Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6)! As trite as it sounds, most educators don't get into this profession to make money, they are in it to make a difference. In cleaning up after COVID, they are working to bring our communities back together. Their classrooms are filled with numerous losses, mental health challenges, in addition to learning gaps that were created by the pandemic. Teachers are a part of so many different lives. They are MAKING DUST AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE! We need to recognize that teachers can provide the pathway back to normal. Our country needs public education and the people that serve our families more than ever. Teachers need support and we need more of them. Please take the time to let them know that they have your support. Take time to let them know that you appreciate the work they are doing. When you VOTE, keep teachers in mind. The payment that comes from appreciation does more for our youth than we know. I know we all appreciate the road that our teachers have been down serving our community during this pandemic. Let them know it. Go out of the way to give them a call, text, email or thank them personally. It is in giving that we receive. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

SUPERINTENDENT NOTE: RE: Emergency Closure Makeup Days During the 2021-2022 school year, the School District had to declare emergency closures and cancel school on the following days: August 20, 2021 - Partial Day - Power Outage March 3, 2022 - PM Only - Water Outage April 12, 2022 - Full Day - Weather April 13, 2022 - Full Day - Weather April 14, 2022 - Full Day - Weather The State of Montana allows one day each year for emergency dismissal without penalty. The April 12, 2022 date is dismissed by the state and will be counted as a full day. This year’s District's Calendar has a built-in allowance. This emergency allowance provides (2 1/2) two and one-half days in addition to the (1) one day allowed by 20-9-806 MCA. This leaves the District short one partial day of school from meeting compliant requirements during the 2021-2022 school year. In order to keep from adding additional days beyond the last day of school (May 25), The Board of Trustees will consider that students and staff be required to make up a partial day of school on April 29, 2022 to meet hourly requirements in 20-1-301 MCA. Currently the day is marked as a PDW day and teachers and most staff are already assigned to be here. With this makeup, the District will be in compliance with the hourly requirements for school outlined in 20-1-301 MCA. The School Board of Trustees will take action on Emergency Closure Makeup Days at its April 25, 2022 meeting. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Superintendent’s Office.
