We had a great Native American Week at PBES. We started the week with the flag song. Our guest singers were joined by PBES’s drum group. They did a great job opening our week.

Throughout the week there were different activities happening across the school. For the primary kids we had CPS Board member Frances Altekruse come in and read her new alphabet book, A is for Auntie. She shared many items representing her Native American culture.

For the upper elementary students they got a great presentation from Randall Tall Bull. He brought in different tools, buffalo robes, and items and explained their uses or significance to the tribe.

The classes also did lots of great activities this week. In first grade they did rice medallions and some contemporary native art with magazines.
For kindergarten they focused on Native story books with projects. They did the story of turtle island and made Sand turtle medallions and the story of the Raven and did raven masks.

The second graders did some great art that focused on Geometry

The teepee also got set up which was a favorite.
