What a beautiful day for a pow-wow! I want to thank everyone involved in making this day such a great success! The adult dancers, color guard, drum groups, and the student dancers were all amazing and we are so proud to bring everyone together to celebrate Native American culture. Don Limberhand arranged with all those people as well as the emcee and arena director. The multicultural club at the high school helped set up and put away tables and chairs, as well as help get our elementary students dressed and ready for dancing. Thanks to the parents for getting their children and all the regalia into the school for such a wonderful presentation. It is not an easy task and we do appreciate all the support we receive. Another beautiful and successful celebration at Colstrip Public Schools!

The Native American Week planning committee has been hard at work planning the exhibition dancing (mini pow-wow) that will be held on Monday, the 25th. Activities are being planned within the buildings, but a lot of activities and presenters will be planned for November which is Native American Month. As you know, the state of Montana mandates that Indian Education for All is taught and I encourage you to share with anyone that asks, that Colstrip Public Schools addresses Indian Education all year...it is not tied to one week or one month. That being said, we are excited to open the homecoming week with the mini Pow Wow. It will start at 9:00 and end before lunch schedules begin so the middle school and high school will be back when their lunches start. We will again be on the soccer fields where it was held last year. Please encourage the students who dance in their regalia to participate and celebrate their culture. Also please encourage ALL students to dance during the intertribal and round dances. Let's have a great time!! Let me know if you have any questions.

Beginning on 9/18, Colstrip Public Schools will offer an Activity Bus service on a test basis Monday-Thursday. The bus will be for students participating in sanctioned after school practices or TAZ who receive a pass from their coach, sponsor, or TAZ teacher. Students in TAZ must remain in the study hall under teacher supervision until 6:00PM in order to receive a pass. Students will not be permitted to get on the Activity Bus without a pass from their coach, sponsor, or the study hall teacher. The bus will depart Colstrip High School at 6:10 and stop at Frank Brattin Middle School to pick up students for BIA and drop off any in-town students at 6:20. The bus will then proceed non-stop to BIA in Lame Deer and back to the bus barn. This service is being provided on a test basis, low numbers or abuse of the complimentary service will result in this non-mandatory service being terminated. Additionally, should there be a shortage of either drivers or vehicles, the service may be cancelled on any given day.
