August 9, 2021
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the 21-22 school year at FBMS! This last year has been one filled with changes and growing pains as we all learned to do school in such a different way. We cannot wait to meet our new 6th graders and all new students, along with welcoming back our 7th and 8th graders! We are firm believers in a growth mindset and self-efficacy. We approach each year with the belief that all of our students are capable of learning, growing, and achieving their goals.
Every day, your child will be immersed in the growth mindset in all of our classrooms. Our students will be asked to take educational risks. They will be praised, not only for their mental quickness or natural intelligence, but for approaching the process of learning with grit and determination. Making and fixing mistakes is a valuable part of the growth mindset approach to learning.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure your child can achieve their highest potential. We understand that in order to be successful in school, our students need support from both the home and school. As partners, we share the responsibility for each students’ success. We promise that we will do our best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning and growth mindset by:
Encouraging your child to take risks and tackle new challenges at school and at home.
Take time to praise your child for the amount of effort put into learning and not just the ease of which they accomplish their goal
Emphasize perseverance and effort in all academic and extracurricular activities
There will be an Open House on Wednesday, August 18 from 5:00-6:00. You will be able to bring your student to FBMS and receive their schedules, lockers/combinations, take a quick tour of the school, and bring their supplies for their lockers.
A strong partnership between the school and home will make a great difference in your child’s educational journey. I hope you’ll commit to joining FBMS on this growth-mindset and self-efficacy journey. The staff and I are eagerly awaiting another wonderful school year and look forward to seeing families and students soon!
